GenSan Hosts Mindanao Bloggers Summit 2 in October 2008
NAME OF EVENT:
The 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit (MBS 2)
THEME:Mindanawan: Paminawon Intawon. Blogging the Mindanao Consciousness
DATE:
October 25, 2008, Saturday, during the GenSan E-Business Week of the DTI and the city government.
This came after the organizers of the 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit held last September in Davao City led by Blogie Robillo, and his group, The Usual Suspects, felt it was time for the Tuna Capital to take the lead.
The Socsksargen Bloggers have been thinking about it ever since Mark Aethen Agana of Koronadal, spearheaded a SOCCSarGen Blog Seminar last February which gathered almost two hundred participants at the Notre Dame of Marbel University.
The positive response of young people from Socsksargen to that seminar led me and seminar speakers Hecky Miñoza, Bro. Vince Celeste, FMS, Sir Ariel Lalisan, together with Gensan Trade portal owners Job and Liezl Oberio, photobuff Toto Lozano, Website designer Dennis Paul Custorio, and teacher Sandra Bonrusto to go a step higher - host an even bigger event, this time to be held in GenSan.
The 1st Mindanao Bloggers Summit in Davao drew more than 150 participants and so to reach that record, we have invited nationally-famous bloggers (along with Mindanao-based personalities) to make up the exciting list of resource speakers.
One who confirmed to be talking on the summit is the Inquirer columnist and Cable TV’s The Explainer, Manuel L. Quezon III himself that “It would be an honor to attend, please let me know the details.”
And since this is GenSan, the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, our culmination activity will be the most-sought after among visitors, the SASHIMI NIGHT!
Now, if those aren’t more than enough reasons to be in GenSan, for the 2nd Mindanao Bloggers Summit on October 25, 2008 I really don’t know what else will be.

GABI NG PARANGAL 2008, organized on March 10 to the comfortably structured gymnasium of the Notre Dame of
It was the first special awards night organized in the University and it was [very] formal. The administrators and faculties were the people who organized the event for the students. They serve as ushers and usherettes of the nominees in awarding ceremony. It was like an OSCARS Awards – because of the presence of the red carpet, the spotlight, the background sound that thrilled and exited the audience, and the witty and humorous emcee in a event’s formal atmosphere.
Some of the student leaders in the University.
From Left: Rogello (incoming principal), Moi (outgoing principal), Sol (new assistant principal for tutorials), Jovann ( head of english dept.), and Zerwin (assistant principal for administration) - Received a plaque of recognition for T'nalak Youth Group as an outstanding organization.

I received also the Institutional Leadership Award for outstanding performance as a student leader in and off campus.

It recognizes also outstanding clubs and organizations that greatly contributed to the development of their members and realized their vision-mission.
Now on its first year, I hope that the Awards will gain university-wide acceptance and will become highly anticipated events in the Notre Dame community.

interfaith prayer rally
If you learn about eye procedures cosmetic surgeons can perform why don’t also learn about participating in nation building?
The prayer rally was participated in by the Catholic clergy, Kabataan Party List, Gabriela, Sector of Farmers, and us, the students who participated and represented the few students in the University but declares ourselves us individual supporters.
Some political science students from the university where there and joined the interfaith rally. I saw Toto Lozano also busy taking pictures in the area.
There will be another Prayer Rally that will be organized on February 29, 2008. I hope more students will speak out and participate in this noble activity.
God bless.

notre dame, pay for us
In Notre Dame of Marbel University, a 10% tuition fee increase next school year was proposed.
It was proposed that the 10% of the tuition increase will go to the teachers’ salaries and improvement of infrastructures and facilities inside the campus.
Some students speak up.
The Library is too big for a too small internet section to accommodate the need of students. The computers can be described as “de-uling” due to slow internet connection.
Students repeatedly voice-out about the presence of some teachers who are not world class, who don’t know how to speak English well and whose method of instruction is too old school for college-level learning. Are we going to expect fewer teachers of these kinds next school year?
Those are just a few.
The more than 4000 souls may have more than 4000 different concerns intertwined. I understand the University’s rigid annual increases but I hope that they can compensate the amounts we’re paying, and hope that the minimum increase is enough and can be justified.
Let’s not wait for Notre Damean to pray and say, St. Marcellin Champagnat , pay for us.
Speak out and raise our concerns. Our great founder who wished to educate the poor children did not want us to be indifferent. I hope they could still remember the teaching of Marcellin, In order to educate the children, you must love them. I hope they will love us and understand the sentiments of the students.
We should never be complacent about things such as tuition increase. To ignore this fact is pathetic and downright stupid.I pray that Notre Dameans would not be apathetic about tuition fees.
Let us remind them to practice what they teach. Copy the image to your blog or set it as your primary photo in Friendster.

change now
Is it only for the people who too lazy to change? Why people fuss over it during the new year's day? When one can have resolutions any months to work-on and live during.
But I believe in making resolutions. It’s a beautiful expression of a desire to change for the better, not because the calendar demands it, but because the person finds in him the need to.
"To do what one has accomplished to do, he must realize, at the very onset, that he is unable. Yes, this is the irony—realize you are unable, and then you become able–because the strength ultimately comes from God. It is God who effects the change in us. Man can only do so much. By realizing his need, a person must come to the One who is able, ask for His grace, and, if He so wills it, He will provide the means for some form of change."We shouldn’t wait for another year to change our bad habits or to do something glorifying to God.
If we must change, then it must be now.
It’s a great year ahead of us. God bless.

So this is it, I made my final registration in college just this afternoon. I’m enrolled in 27 units for this semester and it is gonna be tough since this will conclude my undergraduate study.
I hope I could make use all my remaining time in school in continuing my unfinished businesses, living life the way I should, and meeting my friends.
I really have to do my best to make a difference.
And to make my volunteering service effective.
God bless.

1mbs: not the last
Am I late to post this?
Anyway, I was in the first ever Bloggers Summit in the Mindanao which was held at 4th Floor NCCC Mall, Davao and was organized by the Usual Suspects.Fr. Albert Alejo, SJ’s was one of the speakers also for that event. He was also one of the authors of Ehem! And an active advocate of clean governance and nation building. In the summit he talks about Socio-Cultural Mindset of Mindanaoans. I was really inspired of his talk and sharing on how to keep peace and order in Mindanao. He identified clearly to where the conflict in Mindanao rooted - Culture and Perception of Mindanaoans. I was moved by the music video presented, the “Meme na Mindanaw”. I want to have a copy of that video for our advocacy also. I hope a can grab one.
Winston texted that night before that there will be free lunch sponsored by Dimsum Diner and “everything” might be freely given. It was and we did enjoy it. Kuya Blogie joined us in our table while having lunch. And after a while he invited a guy from England who promotes and encourages bloggers to write about opensource and freeware. Winston was in our table also and he (I think enjoy the conversation with that English guy) confidently answered the question of the guy about outsourcing. Conrad and Dulce were sort of making fun of the guy because they can’t clearly understand what the guy was saying.
Aileen presented a Google Testimonial Video after the lunch.
Kim Castillo of Southisms‘shared on “Transistion from Emo to Niche Blogging”. One must make his/her blog unique from other bloggers to invite viewers and readers. Make your own world and space and open it to online people. Make a difference and be the difference in the blogger world.Bloggers' Party
We have dinner with the Usual Suspects at the Pinutos [I hope I spelled it correctly]. They have a kind-a-not-so-good service but the food was good. After dinner we went to Casa Habana where the Bloggers Fellowship Night was hosted.
The party started at 9pm and there were pica-pica and beers. Light beers. The organizers had also invited an entertainer for the night fun. S/he was hilarious and witty but kinda naughty also.
Jehzeel Laurente sent a message to Kuya Blogie greeting the bloggers and congratulating the organizers for making the event possible.
They gave seven (7) domain and hosting package also that night and I luckly got one. How? That would be kept secret.
Until next time bloggers
Congratulations to the Usual Suspect for your leadership.
