My stressful school days officially ended yesterday. I have finally completed my thesis project, Pharmacy System; it is part of the Hospital Information System designed for the Doctor’s Clinic and Hospital. This system application was created using Visual Basic.NET and MS SQL. The System is designed to work with any platforms (Windows or Linux).

The project’s scope is principally comprised of developing a Point of Sales (POS) and Inventory system that is fully integrated with the hospital-wide system intended to be deployed in the hospital. The system, being just one of the components of the hospital-wide system, is limited in handling those Pharmacy-related activities only including sales, inventory and report generation.

It is very rewarding to hear my instructor say that my system is approved. I am now working on the documentation and package presentation. Although, our graduation is already on March 23, 2008 (Easter Sunday), I still have to comply with all the requirements in my major after the graduation day.

simple thoughts

Not everyone can be pleased.

There are simply enemies around who don’t deserve to be called as enemy.

Life is challenging.

Believe in your heart but respond with your mind.

Have this philosophy: “I can do it!”

GABI NG PARANGAL 2008, organized on March 10 to the comfortably structured gymnasium of the Notre Dame of Marbel University to give recognition to student leaders and achievers in University. It also recognized the best and the brightest talents.

It was the first special awards night organized in the University and it was [very] formal. The administrators and faculties were the people who organized the event for the students. They serve as ushers and usherettes of the nominees in awarding ceremony. It was like an OSCARS Awards – because of the presence of the red carpet, the spotlight, the background sound that thrilled and exited the audience, and the witty and humorous emcee in a event’s formal atmosphere.

Rogello (incoming principal), Moi (outgoing principal), Sol (new assistant principal for tutorials), Jovann ( head of english dept.), and Zerwin (assistant principal for administration) - Received a plaque of recognition for T'nalak Youth Group as an outstanding organization.

I was named as the Most Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for my service as young education-reformist.

I received also the Institutional Leadership Award for outstanding performance as a student leader in and off campus.

The Gabi ng Parangal 2008 is an award-giving body that will annually honors the best Notre Damean in academics, volunteerism, leadership, and as a Marist Individual. It recognizes also outstanding clubs and organizations that greatly contributed to the development of their members and realized their vision-mission.

Now on its first year, I hope that the Awards will gain university-wide acceptance and will become highly anticipated events in the Notre Dame community.

notre dame, pay for us

Labels: , , ,

In Notre Dame of Marbel University, a 10% tuition fee increase next school year was proposed.

It was proposed that the 10% of the tuition increase will go to the teachers’ salaries and improvement of infrastructures and facilities inside the campus.

Some students speak up.

The Library is too big for a too small internet section to accommodate the need of students. The computers can be described as “de-uling” due to slow internet connection.

Students repeatedly voice-out about the presence of some teachers who are not world class, who don’t know how to speak English well and whose method of instruction is too old school for college-level learning. Are we going to expect fewer teachers of these kinds next school year?

Those are just a few.

The more than 4000 souls may have more than 4000 different concerns intertwined. I understand the University’s rigid annual increases but I hope that they can compensate the amounts we’re paying, and hope that the minimum increase is enough and can be justified.

Let’s not wait for Notre Damean to pray and say, St. Marcellin Champagnat , pay for us.

Speak out and raise our concerns. Our great founder who wished to educate the poor children did not want us to be indifferent. I hope they could still remember the teaching of Marcellin, In order to educate the children, you must love them. I hope they will love us and understand the sentiments of the students.
We should never be complacent about things such as tuition increase. To ignore this fact is pathetic and downright stupid.
I pray that Notre Dameans would not be apathetic about tuition fees.

Let us remind them to practice what they teach. Copy the image to your blog or set it as your primary photo in Friendster.

I met my high school classmates before the year ends. We played ate, talked, reminisced the good ol' high school days in KN (our alma mater), and we laughed like crazy. What surpised me was that either they were now involved in romantic relationships, or that they had just broken up. And some shared that they were happily involved in productive and worthwhile activities.
We talked about our plans after graduation and dreams in life which were sweet and real.
I was so happy to see them grow better persons and more mature.
As early this year, we planned our next get-to-gether party so that the attendance next year will be hundred percent complete. Charlene whose parents have a vacation house at Lake Sebu promised to host the venue for our next party. Along with the planning of it, Ronnel and I suggested to adapt a community in the said place for an extension (outreach program) since some of us will be professional soon. This program will serve as a payback to the blessings we have received from Him -bringing and sharing back the good life as a sign of gratitude. Possitively, our classmates commit to impart their gifts to make real this plan.

We had our annual get-to-gether party at Del Rio Splash Resort in the City of Koronadal (again) last December 30, 2007. Each one of us contributed for the food and for the venue. Generously, Ryan who is now working a marine engineer donated some foods and drinkings. He even gave each one of us a friendship band and a christmas card with a personal greetings inside. There are some also who cooked and brought foods which was shared to the group. We had a great time there sharing our college stories and life struggles in the world that we never thought chaotic.

The party ended at 2am. We had a tiring but a wonderful day. I really missed them and I can't wait to see them soon successful.

God has been so gracious as to give me this most wonderful time with my family and friends for Christmas. There are still many things to do. Projects for the PMYC, programs in the department council, pathways tutorial which will finally be possible this year because the LGU of Polomolok gave us already the budget amounting to 90K and 20k from LGU of Banga for the implementationof the academic enrichment program (yepey!) ...and finish two case studies in Ethics and review two books for computer networks due this coming back to school.

***

Does anyone of you have read the books, "The Cathedral and Bazaar" by Eric S. Raymund and "The History of the Future: Origins of the Internet" by John Noughton?

I am soliciting some of your ideas or you can give me some insights regarding the books. I have to review these books as a requirement in Computer Networks. I have read the two books already but I want to hear your from other readers their reviews also. :)

Making college more accessible - http://www.schoogle.ph/

I want to share with you the new feature on Pathways' newest pet project. It is called Schoogle. It is a portal designed to help high school students find information on how to apply for scholarships offered by reputable local universities and foundations in the country. Primarily, 'Schoogle' provides RP college scholarship info to students. In short, It's an online resource for kids who want to enter college.
Schoogle, a play on the words "school" and "Google," is currently limitedto schools in the National Capital Region. But the project proponentsintend to make it nationwide next year.
The online database currently has data on 40 schools and 20 foundationsthat offer scholarships to students.

Please support this project so that we can make more paths for better Philippines. :)

I really have to do my best to make a difference.

And to make my volunteering service effective.

Everything's movin' so fast. I dunno. My clock maybe just turns so fast or maybe i just don't value time. Irresponsible.

Now, I'm having troubles with managing my time. Maybe, it's my fault that I kept on accepting responsibilities, thinking I would be able to spend time for them. But, here I am, missing a lot of things. Maybe, it's time to say 'No' to some of it, not because i have too much of it.

Now, that the final examination is next week, stress never left me. I was burned-out and stressed. I am getting headaches and headaches.

And also, Mark, manage your emotions. It would make you feel better and mature.

cheer up!

God bless everyone!

The 4 days and 3 nights summit of the Youth of Asia and the Marist Brothers of the General Council concluded last September 25, 2007 at Mariapolis, Tagaytay city. It was an enriching experience for us to share, talk, think, and discuss about the Christian life and Marist vocation today. Purposely the activities was designed to get a clear picture of the Asian reality, and to understand how Asian Youth face the realities today and to share our role and commitment as young Christians within the Church in the Asian context and finally to share about Marist vocation as one way to respond to this Asian reality.

*I designed the tshirt printWe arrived one day ahead before the meeting at MAPAC and we were welcomed by the whole community during the dinner together with Bro.Sean Sammon, FMS, the Superior General. There I first met personally, Bro. Vince Celeste, FMS of the IamBalong blog. He was a good person, he accompanied us in Marikina.

We have explored the center of Marikina and bought some personal items at S Mall. Marikina was indeed a clean city, the colored pink fences and posts made the place more attractive. It was like a little Hong Kong in the Philippines.

The next day, after we had our lunch, we went to the venue of the summit. The Marist bus delivered us in Tagaytay, and It was a cold and wet two hours travel from Marikina. But we enjoyed the buildings and the backgrounds we passed by along the road.

29 youth from different part of Asia participated; 20 from Philippines, 4 from Malaysia, 3 from Hong Kong and 2 from Korea. Delegates from the Philippines were from Notre Dame of Marbel University, Notre Dame of Dadiangas University, Notre Dame of Kidapawan College, Notre Dame of Cotabato, Marist School of Marikina, Buda in Bukidnon and Marcellin Homes in Gen. Santos City. The activity was attended also by the Superior General of the Marist Brothers, Sean Sammon, FMS and his General Council from Rome; Brothers Luis Sobrado, Maurice Bequet, Peter Rodney, Anotnio Ramalho, Emili Turu, Pedro Herreros and Theoneste Kalisa.

The program started with a welcome mass. The message of the homily of that mass struck me personally. It was about Matthew the tax collector and God as the center of his life. It made me cry as I relate it with my experiences and my constant search of my self and happiness in life. After that, we had dinner and I was full and satisfied by the food served. We also had a getting-to-know activity and each one of us was expected to share something about ourselves and our country. Everyone is also encouraged to talk and express in English since the gathering is an International event.

That night was the start of my nose-bleeding experience. In some moments I prayed to have an out-of-the-body experience so that I can survive in that place. But language and culture difference was not really a factor that creates gap between participants in communicating to each other. In fact, the delegates from South Korea brought an Interpreter to convey their ideas and as well as to understand the talks and sharings in English.

The following days were great, we had shared about our own experience of Marist life and discussed about the Asian reality and the problems of faced by the Youth today and on how we respond to that reality. Also, we have talked about the Marist vocation and our ideas about it. Actually, they would encourage the young if they have a calling for the vocation but I personally told them that, This is not my world. I am to live a married life and to have a family. But I have a calling for it then I’ll discern for it. If God wanted me to be an instrument of His love for others then I won’t hesitate to enter in this vocation.

We talked also about how the Marist brothers influenced the Youth today and shared on our views of the life they lived. The summit was loaded also of mass, morning praises, prayers, and reflections. It was like attending a retreat in a relaxing and very perfect place. Also, on the last night, we showcased the diverse but rich culture of our country. We had this halo-halo cultural dance presentation. The delegates from Buda portray how Christianity was established in our country followed by a Muslim dance, Maskara festival dance, Kalilangan dance, Kembot dance and Kabataang pinoy dance which was participated by all delegates from Philippines. The Brothers from the general council was stunned and entertained by our performance. While the other delegates have their own presentations also. The delegates from Malaysia rapped and danced with their traditional music and also the delegates from South Korea. the Hong Kong talked about their tradations and sung a song in their langauage. They brought a Moon cake and they have shared it among the other delegates. It was my first time to taste that cake. The Brothers also gave us a presentation, they sung Santa Lucia. The entertaining night ended with never-ending picture taking.

On our last day, we had a light sharing and an open forum. This was the moment that we were about to say our Goodbyes to each other. Though it was hard but we have to, unless, we have extra money to stay. Parting was never easy specially if you established friendship and close relationship to each other. I will miss you all guys.

We stayed one more day at Taguig after the summit and before we went home. We went to MOA, Market Market, Baclaran church, and walked on the streets. I went also in Cubao for an invitational dinner at Dencio’s with Kuya Jay, Ate Ria, Ate Aya, and ate Emz, JVPs based on Ateneo de Manila University. It was also my first time to ride on MRT going to cubao and it was fun.

I met also Jehzeel Laurente, he waited at the Domestic Airport to see me. He was very thoughtful, he gave me a book of Bob Ong entitled, Mac Arthur. We did not talked long because we were late for our check-in. We were I rush because we might not meet our flight schedule. But only to find out that our flight was delayed for 3 hours. If I knew earlier that it would happen, I might be able to thank him and even talk to him formally. But anyway, It was very nice meeting him, he was a very good person. I hope we can talk more longer next time we’ll meet.

[I will be posting more pictures soon]

Last Saturday we had a meeting together with the other Philippine delegates for the Asian Marist Youth Congress. We stayed at the Provincial Marist Convent for two days at Lagao, General Santos City. It was a productive discussion we came up with a good presentation that will interpret the roles of the youth in addressing the issues in our country today that concerns them. We were assigned to organize the second afternoon mass and the High Mass on the last day of the congress. We had planned to have an outdoor Mass on the last day to integrate nature and oneness with the surrounding. I just pray that on this day it won’t rain.

I was tasked to make a digital presentation on the topic “Response of the Youth and the Marist community to the contemporary situation of the Philippines” and also on “Tatak Marista, Hubog Marist!” I hope I can finish these two presentations before September 15. I’ll be presenting it to them with narration. Do you have any suggestion for the technicality and concept in creation of the presentation? I would appreciate it much.

The delegates also decided to design a jacket for the congress. I would be presenting my own drawing and proposal for it.

I expect that this congress is filled with spiritual enrichment and awareness on the role of the youth in the society as Christians. It will be packed also with inter-cultural and inter-faith dialogues with the other Asian delegates. Lectures and talks are maximized. I hope I would not get bore with the program they have designed. Maybe I’ll just enjoy myself and participate actively with the other delegates. I am sure that they’re also excited to meet us.

Bro. Vince Celeste will also participate on the Congress at Tagaytay. We will be seeing each other there. See you there, Bro. Vince!

[learning] from them

Labels: , ,

Yesterday, I and my classmates in Sociology class conducted a community study in one of the GK [Gawad Kalinga] site in Banga, South Cotabato. It is a small sitio that wanted to draw level with modernization of their tribe. Dominantly, the tribe is composed of T’boli’s who migrated to a more fertile land.

Our study is mainly focused on the culture of people there. It’s part of our curriculum. My classmates surprised me with there planning to have the study one day before they told me about it. I was not prepared of the schedule they have set. Rushed. It was for the reason that our [soon to be] documented study will be displayed in the PAASCU Level III accreditation of the University on September. That was the demand of our instructor to the group I belong. With what they have decided, I checked my schedule and discerned to cancel some of my activities in conflict with the conduct study.

It was an overnight activity, but we did not stay at the site because it feels the place is hostile at night so the group decided to sleep-over in the house of a friend near the poblacion. The next day [that was today], we woke up early [I woke up them, early] to have the interview and documentation done. I have to hurry also because I have another activity after that in the afternoon. I tried to organize everything in having that study so that our time will not get wasted.

I have enjoyed very much the community and the study. It somehow immerses us with the kind of life of the indigenous people in South. I feel their wanting to be educated to lessen the discrimination that they are experiencing. They believe that if they are educated [know the things in the world] or looked like a cultured person they can move on for development and acceptance for society.

But I explained that they don’t need to act and look like a learned or educated person to be accepted and to have greater developmental opportunities. They will still be accepted by the society, by the world for being such. I reminded the chieftain, one of the elders of the tribe to preserve their culture and tradition for that is the only treasure of their ethnicity.

The world will be complete if you have harmony and we live in solidarity with them. To be sensitive is not only the concern; it is to be in one of them. Respect is not only what they want; Love is what they need.

With this, I hope that discrimination, difference, inequality, and perception on them will be positively changed in order to have an integral society.
*Note: I'll post some pictures of our visit in that community soon.

stipend, and days to come

Labels: , , ,

A Yahoo! Messenger offline message I received from Claire Quintos, the DOST-SEI XII Scholarship staff, answered my financial problem in school. The message says that I am one of the DOST scholars who successfully will receive stipend for the month of June and July. It was just right in time that I badly needed money to pay my tuition for midterm. I was very happy to have been included in the disbursement list of stipends this month. I thought that our stipends will be delayed again because that’s how government institution works today. Although, I received my stipends, I am still disappointed for I don’t have yet my refund for the last school year benefits I should have enjoyed. It was accumulated until this year and had reached to the amount of 52,000.00 pesos. I planned already to where I’ll use the money; part of it will go to my parents, and to my material wants. Anyway, I have to content my self to the stipend I received and besides my parents are still there to support me no matter what will happen. I love them very much and I owe then the person I am right but I still have to learn more things in life. I have to be stronger and be more mature.

***

Today is the 2nd day of August and it seems that time was fast pacing and I am left behind. I was seemly slow in catching with time and been doing a lot of things without a purpose. I am becoming disoriented of what I really wanted to do. I easily get tired of overdoing things – maybe I have not enjoyed doing it. I need motivation, peaceful mind and heart, and supportive friends.

I hope I can still cope up with the activities and important things that yet I have to do.

***

Six days from now, I will be turning twenty years old. Whaah! I am getting older, I am in line of two already, but I am still emotionally young and weak.

On the 7805th day of my existence on earth, I look into the following dreams and wishes I want to make real:

I wish I can face the realities of life in more open and mature manner. I hope that I will be more human that before. I wish also that God will answer the prayers of those who pray for me. [hindi halata na selfish ako, noh? Arili ko lng iniisip ko. Hehe]

Addition to the list, I wish more blessings in life, good health, and a better Philippines.

God bless us all!

done this, done that

Labels: , , ,

The week was very exhausting. I had a hectic schedule doing things and stuffs that was expected and planned this week. I am effecting my operative time management skill in doing all these scheduled activities and events.

The 1st Volunteers’ Babad.
TYG organized the first general assembly for the new volunteers and it was designed to mold and develop volunteers’ holistic being. This month’s babad session was focused on Self-awareness giving importance on Multiple Intelligences.

We are really glad that we still have that number of volunteers who attended the session. Unexpectedly, we are surprised of the overwhelming interest of volunteers to serve and to learn more about the cause of the organization. We thought that it will be a trend for the TYG volunteers to be inactive as time of their commitment in the org elapsed. We hope that we can change this tendency.
In the conduct of our babad session we are able to let our volunteers stomped the aluminum cans of cola that we have collected during the College of Science and Technology Acquaintance party. We made that activity as a game so that the volunteers will enjoy crashing and stomping those tin cans. We called the game as You CAN do it! where the volunteers were grouped into small groups of eight. The game was to create a highest tower using the tin cans placed in their group. After deciding the round we told them to stomp the cans in the fastest time. The game ended with a brief processing relating to the talk the group had.
That night I to attended the acquaintance party of the College of Business courtesy of the special invitation. I was given two VIP invitation for the party for the credit of being the developer and programmer of the college council billing system project. I gave the other invitation to ayel since there are no other person who deserve the invitation. He was part also of the SAD team for the development of that system. In the party we felt like gate crashers since we were the only students who does not belong to the business college. Well they won't mind us I guess and besides we were officially invited.
Later that evening in the party, we collected aluminum cans for TYG's fund raising. We had three large bags of cans when we exited the hall while the students were discoing. We would have more collected cans if we stayed longer in the hall. Though we can only have 80.00 pesos per kilo of stomped aluminum cans still it would be a great help for our fellow youth in South Cotabato to get into college. Also we will have more cans for our You CAN do it! game. It would be fun.
Acads and more of Academics. I was drowned by the requirements and projects that I have. Deadline was meeting their ends very soon and I still have to cram to start working for these requirements. Another is the System that the Business college demanding to be launched on the second week of August. I hope that I can comply to all these demands and deadlines.
Nomination. I was nominated for the SMC (Saint Marcellin Champagnat) Award in the University. It was the highest award that the University confer to deserving students but I feel not worthy for the award because of the criteria - a nominee must embody Marcellin's principles. The nomination will be also the basis to who will the school send as participant to the Marist Asian Congress this year. Pray for me guys!

While browsing some files on our office computer I found this picture taken last July 7, 2007 during our GeneKewel, it reminds me of how lucky we are to have had organized the event at no expense but only with the collaborative efforts of the volunteers. I just want to share with you how thankful I am for the volunteers who made the Orientation-seminar very inspiring and moving for the new recruited volunteers of the Group. The 2-day event was indeed a success for it really motivates and encourages the Youth to take part in the nation building through educational reform.

This coming Saturday, July 28, 2007 , the TYG will be having their 1st Volunteer Babad. It is a half-day gathering of volunteers to enrich and empower each one. It will serve also as a General assembly for each departments in the organization. Talks, lectures, and group dynamic activities are included in the preparation of this activity.

I've received a call from Ate Sandra this early morning and she said that I qualified to the National Search of Outstanding Volunteers 2007. She told me that i have to prepare all my certificates and awards received for reference. It mean that I passed the regional screening process. I am now to compete to the National. Being nominated to represent our school is too much and very overwhelming. Having qualified to the national is another. The credit will be for all the volunteers of the T'nalak Youth Group.

To volunteer is my passion especially if it is for a good cause.

School requirements are getting my nerves. Midterm is fast approaching. Deadlines are meeting their ends. Demands are getting more heavier. My sleeps are shortened. Stress and Pressure is everywhere.

I need to have extra time. I need more hands. I need to comply to all my requirements. I need money to fund all of it. I need to control time. I need effective management.

Alone?

Does number determine loneliness?

I feel like alone whenever I am with my classmates. It is not because they hate me nor do they have something against me. It’s the feeling that I feel that they do not listen to me. I become true as I express myself to them deliberately too. Maybe I over shown them the real me and I have not anticipated what will it result to them. They resist my being me and keep on letting me feel that I done something wrong and that I disappoint them for what they expect me to be.

Feedbacks are always good. It will give you self-awareness so that you can guard your self. It will make also a sound relationship it you listen and open to it.

Friendship is really measured on the problems undergone and times you understood and helped each other. It was challenging for me to bring back the amity we have for almost four (4) years. I cannot let a little blot on our relationship ruin the bond we have had.

Though I have a number of friends around me, I still suffer the feeling of being alone. I want to fill the emptiness that made me feel this way. I only have few true friends that I can identify as True friends. Yes! Only few of them are real but I did feel alone with them. Expressly, it’s hard to give your self to others for friendship when they locked their hearts for it.

I will always be open for all of them. I will always understand them. I hope that they’ll be also. I’ll never reject our friendship; I’ll be always your friend.

It is good that this happen to my life. I appreciate relationships by experiencing the different taste of it. It will make you better and strong.

I attended my last acquaintance party in our college last Saturday. It really feels sad that it was my last. I won’t experience anymore the competitions between departments in the college during the celebration before acquaintance party. I won’t be kuya anymore to the lower years. I won’t experience the jamming moments with the college bands after the program. I won’t be bringing anymore extra packed foods at home. Hehe. I won’t feel the party atmosphere created by the students’ energy to any more.

I gonna miss all of these. Seniority really made me feel that I still want to enjoy life in college. I know I have to go on the process and attain my objectives.

But I am sure I’ll be experiencing more of it at a different way. :)
